About Me

I see you. You matter.

"I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become."

-Carl Jung (Swiss Psychiatrist & Psychoanalyst)

Choosing therapy can be challenging, and finding the "right" therapist can feel even more daunting. When you find the right therapist for you the fit will feel like "magic." Some of that feeling will only be able to take place once we talk or meet, but providing you a little info about myself might help you as you search for the right therapist for you.

My Journey

My counseling journey began over twenty years ago when I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology. This education kicked off decades of personal study and research while I devoted time to creating a family. My husband and I came from two very different backgrounds, and I was fascinated by the different outlooks, functioning, challenges, and strengths that the two of us came from. Over the years, we have weathered various challenges, (mental health, infertility, identity, trauma, financial, intimacy, etc.), and these experiences only furthered my desire to learn more about the human brain, emotions, trauma, and relationships.  It was after a particularly dark time that I realized that throughout the pain and anguish, I never lost hope or interest in "fighting for the light" and received a very distinct impression that now was the time for me to get my Master's so that I could help others in their dark times. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Pain and challenges can bring growth and possibilities that exceed your expectations about yourself, others, and life. Life is challenging but it is also beautiful.

Education & Approach

I graduated with my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University, a CACREP-accredited school (CACREP is the highest standard in the field of counseling education). As I pursue full licensure I offer clients a determined, hopeful, friendly, knowledgeable counselor at a lower rate, while working with an amazing team of therapists at Ampersand Counseling Group

Although my Christian faith and love for Jesus Christ are foundational to who I am, I completely respect and honor your beliefs and all of my clients' various worldviews and spiritualities.

I work from a psychodynamic, attachment-based framework and utilize evidenced-based experiential interventions that help you gain greater access to your innate resources that are seeking health, balance, and wholeness. For all of you therapy geeks like myself, I primarily utilize Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Adlerian, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT and EFIT), and the Gottman Method (I am Gottman level 2 certified,) for working with individuals, couples, and families. I mostly utilize "talk" therapy, but also integrate many experiential techniques into helping you get where you want to be (i.e. expressive art, empty-chair, somatic processing, etc.)

Hobbies

When I am not seeing clients I enjoy spending time with my husband, our four children, and our rescue dog, Nacho, some of my favorite self-care/hobbies are getting together with friends, bargain hunting, exploring the outdoors, reading, learning, simple woodworking, drawing, watching TV with my family, and having authentic conversations with the people I love.

I feel incredibly blessed to be able to do this work. I get the honor of getting to know the intricate inner worlds of all different kinds of people and watching as they transcend challenges.
