Not Meant to Be Alone: How to Find Peace and Connection as Imperfect Helpmeets in God's Perfect Plan
Coming February 2027 from Cedar Fort Publishing & Media
Maybe you entered marriage believing that if you chose well, kept your covenants, loved deeply, and tried your best, everything would somehow work itself out.
And then marriage became real.
Two imperfect people brought together not only their love and faith, but different personalities, needs, histories, wounds, expectations, bodies, minds, families, and ways of navigating the world.
Somewhere along the way, you may have found yourself wondering:
Why is this so hard if we’re both trying?
Why do we keep getting stuck in the same patterns?
Why can I feel lonely even when I’m married to someone I love?
And where is God in all of this?
Not Meant to Be Alone: How to Find Peace and Connection as Imperfect Helpmeets in God’s Perfect Plan explores these questions through the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, relationship psychology, and the honest experiences of my own marriage.
Drawing from more than twenty years of marriage, professional training and clinical experience, scripture, and the teachings of prophets and apostles, I offer a hopeful way of understanding the struggles that naturally arise when two imperfect people strive to become one.
Perhaps imperfection isn’t evidence that something has gone wrong.
Perhaps God already accounted for it.
Rather than expecting our spouse to heal every wound, meet every need, or become everything we hoped they would be, this book invites us to better understand ourselves and one another, recognize the patterns that create distance, and learn how to turn more fully toward our spouse, our Savior, and our Heavenly Father.
It is not about creating a conflict-free marriage or finally becoming the “perfect” spouse.
It is about discovering how two imperfect helpmeets can learn to love with greater humility, curiosity, compassion, responsibility, and grace—and how Jesus Christ can meet us in the very places where our limitations become most apparent.
Because our imperfections do not disqualify us from love or from God’s plan.
They may be some of the very places where He teaches us how to love more deeply.
In This Book, You’ll Learn…
Why struggle doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong. Explore how opposition, imperfection, differing needs, and the realities of mortality fit within—not outside of—God’s plan for marriage.
How the stories you tell shape the marriage you experience. Recognize the assumptions, expectations, fears, and narratives that influence how you see yourself, your spouse, and your relationship.
What you bring with you into marriage. Better understand attachment patterns, family-of-origin experiences, wounds, personality differences, mental and physical limitations, and other influences that affect the way you give and receive love.
How to become more attuned instead of simply trying harder. Learn to notice what is happening within yourself, understand your spouse with greater accuracy, and become more receptive to the guidance of the Spirit.
How to pursue unity without losing individuality. Explore the important relationship between agency, autonomy, responsibility, boundaries, interdependence, and becoming one.
How curiosity, compassion, and forgiveness can change the way you approach conflict. Learn to look beneath behavior, challenge negative assumptions, make room for repair, and offer grace to both yourself and your spouse.
How to care without trying to carry or fix everything. Recognize what belongs to you, what belongs to your spouse, when outside help is needed, and what ultimately must be entrusted to God.
How emotional, spiritual, and physical intimacy grow from deeper connection. Look beyond surface-level solutions and consider the trust, vulnerability, safety, and mutual knowing that allow intimacy to flourish.
How to make Christ more than an addition to your marriage. Learn to place Him at the center of your efforts toward healing, connection, repentance, and becoming.
Throughout the book, personal stories, therapeutic insights, restored-gospel principles, practical tools, and reflection questions invite you to consider your own relationship with greater honesty and hope.
Whether your marriage is struggling, strengthening, or simply more complicated than you once expected, Not Meant to Be Alone offers an invitation to see it differently:
Your spouse was never meant to be your Savior.
You were never meant to carry marriage by yourself.
And neither of you has to be perfect for God to do something beautiful with your relationship.
You were never meant to walk this journey alone.
Not Meant to Be Alone is scheduled for publication in February 2027 through Cedar Fort Publishing & Media.
